Google Chrome’s “Reading List” feature is an excellent way to save web pages or online articles for later viewing when you have some downtime.

You might be thinking, what’s the difference between bookmarking and adding web pages to your reading list. Well, the difference lies in the fact that you can read your web pages in the “Reading List” even without an internet connection, however, it is not possible in bookmarked pages.

However, there are some users who don’t want to use this feature and therefore want to remove “Reading List” from Chrome.

How to Remove the Reading List button in Google Chrome 90 and Newer

You can hide the “Reading List” button very easily in Google Chrome 90 and newer versions.

You just have to right-click anywhere on the “Bookmarks Bar” or the “Reading List” button to bring up the context menu. Then, in the drop-down option, uncheck “Show Reading List.” Doing this will hide the “Reading List” button from Chrome.

Later, if you want to enable it again, then right-click the “Bookmarks Bar” and check the “Show Reading List option.


How to Remove the Reading List button in Google Chrome 89 and Older

Step 1: You have to open Chrome and copy and paste this chrome:/flags/#reading-list into the URL and then press Enter.

Step 2: This will highlight the “Reading List“. Now from the dropdown menu, you have to change it from “Default” to “Disabled“. Then, at the bottom of the screen, you have to click the “Relaunch” button to make the changes take effect.

Step 3: After your browser gets restarted, you’ll see that the “Reading List” feature is no more visible in the Bookmarks Bar.

You can re-enable it in the future by simply entering chrome:/flags/#reading-list in the URL and setting the flag to “Enabled” from “Disabled“, and then relaunch your browser.
