I find the easiest way to draw a star is to first sketch a simple five pointed shape.
Draw two lines down from the top and another two lines up from the bottom.
This will be the center of your star. Now, below the center, make a dot and a short straight line.
Connect them to form a triangle, touching one side of your five-pointed shape. Now below that, make another dot and a short straight line.
Connect them to form another triangle, touching one side of your five-pointed shape again.
Now you have all three points of each triangle meeting at the same point in space!
Connect the tops and bottoms of each triangle with a short straight line. Voila, a star!
